My intial training was in Person Centred Therapy and in line with that I work from the belief that each person is unique and has the potential to bring about positive change within themselves.
This means that we will work at your pace and only with what you bring to discuss.
I will listen carefully and respectfully to what you say and offer both support, and where appropriate constructive challenge to help you to increase your clarity and understanding.
I understand that undertaking counselling can feel daunting at first and I take care to work with you in a gentle, supportive and genuine way that I hope will help us to build a trusting relationship in which effective counselling can take place.
In the ten years since I qualified as a therapeutic counsellor I have gained experience in a secondary school working with young people, within an agency working with areas of sexual assault and abuse, within the judicial system and in private practice.
I have also worked as part of a team of counsellors providing therapeutic programmes to clients and through this I have gained experience of facilitating groups including group therapy as well as one to one work. I have also undertaken group therapy training. All this has allowed me to work effectively with clients bringing a very wide range of issues.
I offer both short and long term counselling. This usually takes place weekly and sessions are one hour long. We can discuss frequency of sessions and reach an agreement that works for us both.
I am a registered member of BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) and I work within their code of ethics. I have regular supervision to ensure that I maintain professional standards. I also undertake ongoing training as part of my continued professional development.
